Where’s the Relo Industry Going? Green.

I would like to wish a happy anniversary to the green cause! The first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970. I currently serve on the Employee Relocation Council’s Green Initiatives Committee. The committee’s goal is to educate members on green issues and help them integrate environmentally friendly practices into their business plans. As the leader of Cartus’ real estate services group, I find this to be of particular benefit as I look to the future and contemplate how the evolution of green homes will impact real estate and relocation.

Richard A. Smith, president and CEO of Realogy, appeared on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’ program on March 16 to discuss the state of the U.S. housing market. Know This About the Homebuyer Tax Credit!

As the person who leads the company’s real estate services program, I get asked a lot about the impact the expansion and extension of the U.S. homebuyer tax credit will have on relocation programs. I would like clients with relocating employees to consider the following:

Critical Timelines. If you have employees who want to take advantage of the credit, make sure the timing of their relocations and the authorization of the home sale process is coordinated carefully to help them meet critical deadlines — don’t delay authorization, homefinding trips, etc.
