Mourning Period for Hugo Chavez | Impact on Assignees

After the passing of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan government has declared an official mourning period beginning March 6. Private companies, including Cartus DSPs and other suppliers, are expected to reopen on Thursday, March 7. Government employees will have the next three days off in order to participate in mourning. Essentially, all government agencies will either be shut down or will operate at minimum capacity for the rest of the week, potentially creating delays in customs, issuance of visas, issuance of driver’s licenses, etc.
